Over the years I have had a few career changes. I certainly haven’t always been sure of what I wanted to be and definitely had no idea how to get to a place of balance a lot of the time. But even when I had no idea what my next step looked like I always knew I wanted to be able to walk my dogs in the daylight for at least 40 minutes every day. That has always been my one thing. It brings me joy, I find it very meditative to walk through the trails with them and it gives me a sense of balance…plus I feel like a kick ass dog mom when I do it!
I am telling you all of this because it helps to know what your one thing is! I wasn’t always able to walk my dogs for 40 min in the daylight every day. In the winter months when I was working 9-5 it was impossible. But it was something I knew I had to work towards because it was so important to me.
What is one thing that brings you joy? That makes you smile or gives you a sense of balance or peace? It doesn’t have to be complicated or even lengthy. Whether it’s having 5 minutes to meditate, having enough time to do hair AND makeup before work without rushing or simply have a few minutes to read a good book all by yourself. Knowing what that one thing is even if you can’t always incorporate it into your current life is important.
- You are holding space mentally for something small that brings you joy.
- You are keeping it in your heart as a goal (or maybe you make it a visual goal with some pictures!).
- Making an effort to practice what brings you joy on a daily basis (if you can) is action towards a life that is more aligned with you…and that’s a great thing
This means you are manifesting something that brings you joy!
Holding space for it, keeping it in your heart as a goal, taking action to make it happen = you putting it out into the universe the type of aligned life you are going to live.
You don’t have to know the HOW of everything. But it’s important to know WHAT is important to you. I didn’t have a clue how I was going to be able to walk my dog’s every day in the daylight. Especially when I was on a career path that meant 9-5 was it for me. So I didn’t try and figure out the how. I just kept that as a goal. Continued to work their walks in as best as I could…then one day I was able to do it. I had made a career change and all of a sudden I didn’t have to start until 10:00 which meant…I had time!! For years I really didn’t know how it would happen. I just kept it in my heart and in my actions.
So know what your one thing is! Hold it in your heart. Make an effort to do it as often as you can. Living a life of passion and purpose doesn’t mean you have all the answers. It means following the joy and making more space for that in your life.
